6 Nations Championship map
There’s an old saying which goes: “Rugby is a hooligan’s game played by gentlemen, while football is a gentleman’s game played by hooligans“. 6 Nations Championship is known as one of the oldest competitions in the world (FA Cup is twelve years older). Its history can be read in the Wikipedia. It started as a tournament named as Home Nations, played by England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland; some years later France officially joined the competition and coined the phrase Five Nations. Finally, Italy joined in 2000 and the tournament became known as the Six Nations Championship.
In the map below, we can see all seven stadiums. Actually, there should be only six, but Dublin’s Lansdowne Road is set to be redeveloped by April 2010, and meanwhile, all matches are played in Croke Park. This stadium is owned by the Gaelic Athletic Association, whose constitution until recently did not allow foreign sports to be played on their ground, and rugby is an English sport.

Modern stadiums like Stade de France or Welsh Millennium Stadium are listed among older ones, such as Italian Stadio Flaminio, Murrayfield in Scotland, or rugby’s cathedral, Twickenham, in London.
